Arrows

"to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" - Hamlet, Act III, scene i

So, I've decided that parenting is part skill, part sheer luck.  Last night was just plain bad luck.  Maeve woke at 11:40 and did not fall back asleep till 1:30.  So it was kind of an arrows night for us.

Some people have babies that sleep twelve hours a night, nap twice a day, and play quietly by themselves for hours at a time.  I think the Universe gave me Maeve because I wanted a baby so badly, it knew I wouldn't chuck her out the window when lesser mortals would have been sorely tempted,

Hamlet didn't have kids, but Shakespeare sure did.  Makes you wonder if he wrote the "To be or not to be" speech on a particularly sleepless night. Certainly no other time in my life has made me question existence more.

To sleep, perchance to drool.

  2. Ugggghhh...I dread those nights! Could Shakespeare have written his great works if he were the one getting up with the kiddies at night? Methinks not.

  5. I love the comment about the universe knowing you wouldn't chuck her out the window cause you wanted her so bad, that describe me, i waited so long for the joys and heartaches of motherhood. I have a very stubborn child that her will and stamina amaze me when she wants her way.
