Personality

“I knew that I had come face to face with some one whose mere personality was so fascinating that, if I allowed it to do so, it would absorb my whole nature, my whole soul, my very art itself.” -Oscar Wilde

The older she gets, the more my little Maeve shows off her own unique personality.  I'm sure it shows in these blog posts, but from my perspective, watching her grow from tiny infant to almost-toddler, it's been a slow process of getting to know my little mystery.

These days her curiosity and reticence are becoming mixed with goofy, daring, and sly.  She looks at me sometimes with a warm familiarity, a "ah, there's my momma" look that melts my heart.  And other times, it seems like she's staring me down, seeing which of us will crack first.  When crawling towards trouble, she'll pause and look back at me as if to say "Hey, are you coming or aren't you?".

She has a mighty grump when awakened, but sometimes is all smiles.  I guess it depends on whether she had good dreams or not, who knows?  Some days she'll happily babble away in the car and chew on her plastic horse, other days it's miserable sobs from beginning to the end of the ride.  Mercurial, my daughter is, like the weather.

She fascinates me, my serious, goofy, tricky, wise baby girl.  Today I am learning from her that I don't always have to be the same.  It's okay if my personality shifts around a little, too.

Spinach makes her silly!

  2. Can I just say how perfect that Oscar Wilde quote is for this post? Makes me want to dust off his collected works and get to reading. Also, I love your writing style!

  3. Thanks L, both compliments are much appreciated. :) I'm kind of a quote hoarder - thank goodness quote notebooks don't take up too much space!
