Victories

“Victory is won not in miles but in inches. Win a little now, hold your ground, and later, win a little more.” Louis L'Amour

We are experiencing little victories around here.  I love the feeling of just getting one win, albeit a small one, during long days of teething, fussing, nap refusal, and falling over repeatedly.

To wit: our first victory is that Maeve is sleeping better.  This is actually a huge victory, since it's a lot easier to parent on 6-8 hours of sleep than it is 1-2 hours at a time, punctuated by tears.  My patience and good nature are returning, and my tendency to weep at the drop of a hat is dissipating.

Another victory: Maeve is starting to feed herself.  This means I don't have to cajole her at mealtimes with elaborate "please take a bite" ceremonies.  I just shovel in bites of puree in between finger food bites.  Problem solved.

Lastly, we've successfully babyproofed enough that Maeve can play in the living room with minimal intervention.  All I have to keep her away from are trash cans, the computer monitor and speakers, and the venetian blinds.  This means sometimes Maeve can play by herself, under my watchful eye, for sometimes fifteen or twenty minutes while I fold laundry, do Facebook, or eat my lunch.  This is making life considerably easier.

Hooray for small victories!

  2. How awesome! It's amazing how one good night's sleep can make you feel like king of the world! I hope things continue in this direction. :) (Loving the birds on your blog by the way)

  3. that's great news - I'm very impressed by your ability to celebrate even the small victories - you are right though - those small things can add up to a big change in attitude for you and maeve :)
