"If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands. "
-Douglas Adams
There are two exciting things going on right now at our house, and they are both to do with ducks.
The first is a matter of making connections. On Friday, I was playing with Maeve on the floor, and started singing "
Rubber Duckie" just for fun. She got a very serious look on her face, got up, and toddled off. She looked around the living room for a few minutes, then came back to me, holding her bath duck. Coincidence? I think not. I don't normally hold up her duck while I sing that song, nor is bathtime the only time she hears "Rubber Duckie". My big girl is making connections all by herself!
Secondly, in my excitement over the duck, I've been pointing out every duck in her books, on walks, and everywhere I can think of. I think it's possible that this is leading to the development of her third spoken word. She got Mamamama and Dadada (or Didididi) a few months ago, but now when she picks up her duck, she says "Dadada". Three da's, every time. This may be Maeveish for Duck. And how cute is that?

Ducks and Maeve go back a long way! |
That is no coincidence! Soon you'll be seeing ducks in your sleep she'll be gabbing about them so much!
ReplyDeleteEither that or she thinks her father is small, yellow, and can float in a tub. So I'm going with your conclusion.:)
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy how tired you look in this picture! I had forgotten those days.
