I have applauded my Maeve relentlessly since birth, so much so that the first time we attended Baby Time at the library and the teacher applauded the kids after the first song, she looked around, pleased as punch that so many people were clapping for her.
I don't know yet if she has some kind of inner diva, but she does chew on her hairbrush a lot, and I informed her that the hairbrush is also a microphone. But I do know for certain that she likes it when people clap for her, preferably accompanied by high-pitched squeals of glee, which I am happy to provide. Just part of our service package here at Moms R Us.
The tides have turned, now. Maeve learned yesterday how to clap, so now she can give herself a standing ovation. Like most babies, she claps when she's extraordinarily happy or excited, so every half hour or so. It's fun to watch. I'm not going to say she's mastered it, she makes a real connection with her hands maybe half the time. But the joyous spazzing out is very entertaining to watch.
Brava, darling, encore.
