Puzzle

“There are no extra pieces in the universe. Everyone is here because he or she has a place to fill, and every piece must fit itself into the big jigsaw puzzle.”  Deepak Chopra

I don't know if the above quote is true, but I think Maeve would like to think so.  She is just beginning to enjoy trying to figure out how things fit together, and the world is her puzzle - or maybe her Rubix cube.

We have a stacking tower that comes apart into little hemispheres that can be put together into balls.  Maeve used to have no interest in the tower, but now she brings it over to me, grunting and whining, wanting to take it apart and put it together.  She can't quite make a ball just yet, but I've seen her try.

Working hard!

She also has a shape-sorting hippo (which my friend called "Hippo-rexic" since he spits the shapes out) and yesterday she got a shape in the right hole all by herself, my little smartie.  She has a book of foam shapes that she can - with maybe 75% accuracy - put back where they came from.  And she now seems to get that her clear-sided containers can only be accessed through the hole in the top, not through the sides.

It seems like she learns something new every day, and I'm just playing catch-up!

  1. Great post - watching them learn - and the determination they have - those are my favorite motherhood moments.
