Daddy's Girl

"Certain is it that there is no kind of affection so purely angelic as of a father to a daughter.  In love to our wives there is desire; to our sons, ambition; but to our daughters there is something which there are no words to express."  ~Joseph Addison

Something happened when Maeve turned one, she seems to have instantly become a Daddy's girl.  She has always loved her dad, in fact, in our house, Dada either means Dad or Cookie Monster, so great is her affection for the two of them.  He used to feel left out when Maeve was so dependent on me, but I promised him that she would soon change her tune.  I really didn't realize it would be this soon, though!

Every day since her birthday, dada has been the word on her lips when she wakes up in the morning.  She is consistently disappointed to find him not in the living room when she toddles out.  She points at pictures of him on the wall, and wants to be lifted up to see.  I ask her, "Where's Mama?" and she looks at me blankly.  Where's who?  Show me the Dada!

Daddy is having a lot more fun with Maeve these days, too, now that she's more, well, interactive.  She's ticklish, she plays a sort of hide and seek, she tackles her dad and sits on his head so she can steal his glasses.  And he obligingly puts bowls on his head, chases her with a pink pillow, and reads endless stacks of books to the little squirmy wormy.

We've been having so much fun with Dad, and Maeve misses him so much during they day, we're setting up a Daddy lunch date twice a month, where Maeve and I will meet him for lunch on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver. I think this will be great for all of us... I don't mind seeing his face, either.

We met up with Dad last week and it was very silly.
