Bye Honey

“No distance of place or lapse of time can lessen the friendship of those who are thoroughly persuaded of each other's worth.” Robert Southey

It's just for a week, I'll be fine.  I know so many supermoms whose husbands are deployed, truck drivers, or otherwise not home a lot, and they not only manage but are totally awesome.  It's just that I'm a wimp.

I cry driving away from the airport every time, because I just utterly hate being parted.  The nature of our marriage is a happy, quiet togetherness and a satisfied reliance on each other.  He makes the coffee, I make breakfast.  He does the dishes, I do the cooking.  He does diapers and feeding when he's home, I do them the rest of the time.  We eat ice cream sandwiches after Maeve goes to bed and watch QI or Doctor Who because it turns out we're nearly exactly the same kind of geek.

I have recruited a veritable army of friends-and-relations to come by and babysit me/entertain Maeve this week - oh, and if you haven't volunteered, why not?  So I should be well amused and distracted while he is away.  Except don't you think the tides would miss the moon if he went on a business trip?  I mean, why lap the shores if there's no one to draw you in?

See you soon, sweetheart.  Only four nights without you.

Loving you is what I'm good at

  1. Your relationship sounds like the perfect balance of give and take--no wonder you're upset when he leaves! Just keep busy and he'll be back before you know it!
