On Molars

"If suffering brings wisdom, I would wish to be less wise. "-William Butler Yeats

I would love for my poor baby to get a break from teething.  She has had about a month total of teething-free time since she started teething at three months, and it hurts her something awful.  Her normally sunny demeanour turns sour and screamy the moment her Tylenol wears off, so that many people who have met Maeve think of her as an unhappy child.

I am afraid that she has inherited what I like to call my 'low pain tolerance' or as others have termed it, wussiness.  So not only is her teething pain ridiculously bad, it feels twice as awful to her because even a little bit of pain makes her miserable.  Of all the things to pass along - here's me still hoping her thyroid is fine and her veins aren't impossible to draw blood from!

It just feels interminable, and I am so tired of clove oil gel, popsicles, constant gnawing, liquid tylenol, and frozen teethers I could just scream.  I practically start grinding my teeth when other parents say "Oh, our baby never had much trouble teething;" just like I did when Maeve was up six times a night and other people would tell me about how their kid had been sleeping through the night since she was born.  On a side note, please don't baby-brag unless it's to people without kids.  The rest of us will be better off not comparing ourselves with your wonder-tot.

Sorry, today is just a little complaining time for me, but I thought probably some of you have been here or are here, and could use the company.  Today will be a good day, we will have fun and try new things, and try not to think about molars.

Phone gnaw!

  1. I hope her tooth troubles abate soon! (On a related note, have you tried camilia drops? Sometimes they're the only things that work on Sammy when he's in the throes of cutting teeth.)

  2. I haven't tried them - do you drop it onto the tongue or gums?

  3. I'm sorry! Remember people who brag about how perfect their children are/were are either liars or they don't exactly remember it accurately! Have you tried teething tablets, I hear they work well. Oh and I am so glad to be back to blogging, I missed your so insightful truthfulness :)
