Maeve is really starting to make connections, and it's fun to watch. Some of her connections are fairly straightforward, like holding up her stuffed Elmo to whichever book she's reading that starts Elmo, or when Elmo comes on Sesame Street. She also likes to make sure Big Bird sees any representations of himself in print or on screen.
She showed me her finger puppet panda next to her Baby Einstein panda that plays music, which was impressive since they don't bear that much resemblance. She even recognized two Carter's giraffes she has which are different colors and different sizes. She has reconciled the differences between her Disney stuffed Tigger and her Classic Pooh version. I just shake my head in amazement at how smart she is all the time.
Some of her connections are hard to explain to her - she has a stuffed Clifford who is the same color as Elmo, and she brings them to me together with a meaningful grunt - I tell her they're both red, but I don't know how much that means to her yet. And how many times am I missing the connections she's making altogether because I don't see it? Probably often.
Her lil' brain is just going 500 miles an hour these days- her legs and definitely her mouth can't keep up just yet. I know pretty soon she'll be talking incessantly but it's hard to wait. I am making an effort to not let her have the pacifier so often so she can "say" more, but lately it's mostly babble. C'mon, baby! I want to know what's going on in that busy brain!
