Forrest Gump: I gotta pee.” - Forrest Gump
Hark, friends and relations, to the story of the wunderkind who successfully felt the urge and used the potty for the very first time. It is a tale fraught with peril, mystery, adventure, and near-misses. And pee.
I have been letting Maeve "use" her big-girl potty whenever she wants. This generally consists of her running to the bathroom door, knocking on it, then running at me with a huge grin on her face. I say, "Oh, is it time to potty?" and she practically explodes with happiness. She then sits on the potty while I count to 10 (otherwise she will sit on it for 1 second and then hop off ), then gives me a huge hug, and I put her diaper back on or get her a fresh one. We have played that game for a week and a half.
But yesterday during one of our potty ventures, I realized her diaper was warm - i.e. she had just missed the potty window. I didn't think too much of it, until last night after we got home from picking up Daddy at work. She had drunk a large sippy cup full of juice and water, and was ready to go potty again. I scampered down the hall and took off her diaper, at which point I realized she was already peeing. On the floor.
With a whoop, I set her on the potty to finish the job. My little genius daughter correctly predicted that she needed to pee, and she wanted to do it on the potty! At 15 months! She doesn't even say potty yet! Admittedly, we might have made too big a deal about it, because she started to cry afterwards. Maybe she didn't understand just how great it was or how excited we were, so Daddy and I toned down the celebrations.
I know we have a long road ahead of us as far as consistency and accuracy go on her part, but I feel like there's been a major scientific breakthrough at our house! And can we all just say, what a big girl!
| See? No potty pictures. I am a nice mommy. |
LOL you're such a great mommy Clara... I have no idea how I'd have reacted when she peed on the floor !!! :D Love your blogs, as usual. You remind me what's truly important. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL Jess, it's true what they say, it's different when it's your kid. I haven't caught vomit in my hand yet, but there's every chance I will! Glad to lighten your day a little :)
ReplyDeleteWoo-HOOO!!! YAY!!! That is awesome indeed!!! Go, MAEVE!!!
ReplyDeleteps - I meant to tell you before how cool it is that our daughters have the same middle name! So I think their first two initials are even the same: ME :) Moxie's spells "MEN"; Micah's are "MAN". That always cracks me up for some reason.
Doozee - that is too funny. And Elenore is such a lovely name - it's my maternal grandmother's name. Maeve's spell MEK, which doesn't mean anything at all, but I always think how apt it is that her first two initials are ME cuz that describes her pretty well right now!
