Thankful Learning

“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.” - Buddha

I am thankful that Maeve drank a little bit of juice yesterday; I am thankful that she had good naps; I am thankful that she ate one or two graham crackers and held them down for two hours before the dams broke.  I am grateful that I am not yet sick, and that I slept well the night before Maeve got sick.

I learned a little.  I learned that Maeve hates Pedialyte (and who can blame her?  I tasted it and yeccchhh!) even when it’s made into a popsicle.  I learned that just because a sick child perks up does not mean the worst is over.  I learned to duck.  I learned that puking comes to an end but the nerves and the sadness a mommy feels when her daughter is sick last much, much longer.

Maeve learned that Momma is weird; I cried with relief when she drank some juice.  She learned that puking, although scary, will not kill you.  She learned that her parents will feed her anything she wants when she’s pathetic and sick.

And we all learned that chocolate soy pudding is not great on a tricky tummy. And that a good night's sleep can work wonders, on a sick kiddo as much as a worn out momma.  This morning she is up to full pep, I'm just trying to keep up.

Be sick and carry a stick.
