Like Us

"Wit consists in knowing the resemblance of things that differ, and the difference of things that are alike. " -Anne Louise Germaine de Stael

As she gets bigger (we won't even say older), Maeve resembles each of us in different ways- often in ways we can't put a finger on until a grandparent says "You used to be just like that".  For one thing, her haircut makes her look more like I did at her age - especially since, as my mom pointed out, she only knows one haircut!

She also has my laugh and my eyes, which are an excellent legacy, and I'm quite proud she gets to carry both of those on.  And despite her toddler-predilection for high-pitched squeals, she is a natural alto just like me.

But what I really love is how she takes after her Dad, because frankly, her dad is one of my favorite people, and I love seeing him in her.  I mean, we had kids for a reason, we wanted a little bit of each other to live on, and Maeve definitely has her daddy in her!

She does a little happy wiggle while enjoying certain foods, which both her dad and grandpa do.  She loves robots and dinosaurs, and is interested in science.  We have been informed by her grandma that her dad made the same throat-clearing attention-getting noise, which is very funny.

It is so fun to watch how she's becoming herself, and sometimes she seems like a little alien, but we both see each other in her, which is such a marvel.
Big shoes to fill

  1. It's so amazing watching how children evolve and the traits they inherit. Then there are the ways that are just so "them" - unique. Quite miraculous, really.
