The Snowman

If you grew up anything like when I did, you love this movie.  Just this song gives me goosebumps every time, it's so beautiful. Maeve has a board book version of the book this cartoon was based on, and she loves it.  Her favorite part is when they snowman and boy fly out over towards the seaside at Brighton.  She's been there just this year, although I doubt she's making the connection, I think she just likes the drawings.

Yesterday we made Maeve's first snowman, just a quick piece of work in the slightly melty snow, which is the best kind for rolling snowmen.  I ended up making it the same height as her, really by accident, and she kept looking at him quizzically.

She liked him much better when he had a face, although she immediately tried to remove his eyes and mouth once they were on.  She said "Eye" and grabbed the rock out of its socket.  So we went back and forth for a few minutes, but eventually she let it be.

Once I got his mouth in, I decided we were done, and she started wandering off in search of other chilly delights.  She did pause to push his head off his shoulders before we left, so we'll never know if he would have come to life and taken her flying last night.  Ah well, maybe next year.

  1. Looks like so much fun! Maybe one day we'll get enough snow down here to make a snowman, haha!
