Snow Suit

"Snowsuit up!" - Barney, How I Met Your Mother

Does anyone else get a happy feeling of safety and imperviousness when their kids are in snowsuits?  Not only is Maeve just downright adorable in a snowsuit, not only do I love the zip-zip sound she makes when she walks, but I feel like between the snow and the snowsuit, she barely feels it when she falls over. Nothing can happen to her when she's ensconced in that icon of childhood.

Which is good because between learning to walk in her boots and the unexpected textures of snow, she ends up falling a lot when we play outside.  That, and she often crashes to her knees to inspect the grass poking through the snow or to grab a handful of snow to munch on.  She looks up at me and says "Snack" as if my bringing animal crackers would have somehow solved the problem.

Watching her zip-zip around the snow-covered playground yesterday, I watched with happiness and a sense of confidence.  There were no hidden catastrophes at the playground yesterday, just the safety of a padded nylon suit and the cushion of snow.  Ah, if only I could always send her out into the world this well-protected.

Mom, fix it, please.

  1. I was totally picturing her in an outfit similar to Ralphie's little brother in a Christmas Story--so well-wrapped that she'd be unable to put her arms down! :D

  2. Not quite, it was 45 degrees out that day! Plenty warm enough for just a coat and a snowsuit. But it's tempting!
