As a parent, I've found you can either get dragged down into the continual failures and difficulties of the day, or you can celebrate the little victories, every flag planted on a hill. And today seems like it's headed toward the former, so I'm going to blog about the latter in an attempt to turn things around.
Victory #1: Lunchtime. We have had a hard time with lunch in the last few weeks; Maeve seems uninterested in anything but a small mid-day snack. I have changed all that with the power of bananas, pretzels, and sunflower butter. And yesterday, since we stayed inside all day and needed a break, she got a sunflower butter and chocolate syrup sandwich. Win.
Victory #2: Communication. No more grunts and screams to get Momma's attention, we now live in a land of one-word commands. Of course, we're working on the please part of the equation, but it still beats being yelled at.
Victory #3: Books. Maeve was temporarily blinded by the magical mystery of Yo Gabba Gabba and forgot how much she liked books. So we started going to the library more and turning off the set more, and now we're back to the magic of Dr. Seuss. Still trippy, but more educational.
Victory #4: New Foods. Last night we got her to try a tater tot, which I knew she would love, but kept refusing to eat, in the past. All she did last night was nibble, but I felt like we were getting somewhere.
That's really all I've got, but we'll keep trying to celebrate the little things today. What tiny victories are you celebrating?
