Alphabet, Yeah

"I like Fisher Price music, nursery rhymes, and the alphabet song. " -Tre Cool of Greenday

She's still not singing them, but Maeve has begun to rattle off whole chunks of the alphabet.

We were out at a restaurant with some friends, eating chips and guacamole, and Maeve piped up, "H I J K" and it took me a split second to realize she was listing off the letters of the alphabet.  I jumped in quickly, "What comes next, honey?"  She thought about it a little, and said "L N O P".  She then finished off the alphabet with only a few little prods from me, right there at our table at the restaurant.  Maybe Mexican food is good for babies' brains.

I also noticed this week that she has been a lot quicker to name letters, and doesn't need to stop and think about which one it is, if they're presented to her in order.  She's been beating the kids to the punch on  Sesame Street and yelling out the letter before they do, which is fun to watch.

Am I bragging again?  Yup.  But she is a bright little bean.

Next step: Reading!

  1. Hehe, Sammy is starting to identify letters a lot more these days as well; I just finally figured out that he's identifying (and/or making up) letters whenever he opens a book and starts "reading" to himself. Maeve will have the whole alphabet down in no time!
