This story is by way of my husband's retelling this morning: Daddy is in charge of bathtime because Momma has very bad knees. So when Dad gets Maeve out of the bath, he gives her a sequence to remind her what they do. He says, "First, we get out of the tub, second, we do diaper and pajamas, and third, we go see Mommy!"
Well, Maeve loves the predictability and structure of the first, second, and third, but last night she was very impatient (as usual) to see me after her bath, so after Daddy reminded her of first, she jumped ahead and said "Third, Mommy!" She was hoping for a joyous, naked reunion with me, but of course, that did not happen.
I know where Maeve is coming from, though. We are having some woes trying to get the closing done on our new house, so far the date has been pushed back twice. The latest outrage is that our bank has sold our property in a deal with another bank, so now we have a whole new bank to deal with. And I just want to say, look. First, you accepted our offer. Now, third, can we move in? Can we just skip second, we go through the closing? That would work for me.
But most of life happens in order, and certainly it does when a bank is involved. So we will try to cultivate yet more patience, and hope that it blooms.
