Maeve used to feel like W C Fields, I think, about other kids. They were noisy, unpredictable, played with her toys, and did not do as they were told. But she is warming up to them, slowly but surely.
Her best friend is Kai, who she sees at least once a week, even though now that we've moved, we aren't as close to his house as we were. She talks about him even when he's not around, and calls him Kai Baby, although he's a mere 4 months younger than she is, possibly because she has about six inches on him.
She has warmed up to Kai so much that she tried to give him a smooch when we saw each other at the Denver Botanic Gardens this week, although Kai wasn't having any of it and ran back to the shelter of his daddy's legs. He loves her, too, though, and calls her Muh, chasing her wherever she goes.
We have a new playground friend in our new neighborhood named Elijah, and he's almost exactly Maeve's age. They played together yesterday, and Elijah brought his cool, ride-in car to the playground, and thanks to some strong encouragement from his dad, managed to share it with Maeve. It was great to see them taking turns and getting along, as well as two almost-2-year-olds can.
There are a ton of kids in this neighborhood, too, we have an 8-month-old across the cul-de-sac, and a three year old and a 3-month-old across the street, so once the little ones put on a couple of years, I'm hoping they'll all be inseperable. I'm just so proud of my daughter for all the big leaps she's taken in her social skills!
