Big Birthday

"Spring is nature's way of saying, 'Let's party!'" -Robin Williams

I know I have been kind of mum on the subject of Maeve's upcoming birthday.  Partly this is because moving and then doing Easter was kind of overwhelming, but I'm now finally getting into the spirit of getting Maeve's party ready.

It's going to be space-themed, since my little prodigy loves everything to do with outer space.  My plan is to make a Sun-decorated cake for the grownups (with dairy in it) and little chocolate dairy-free cupcakes for the kiddos, decorated with stars, since Maeve is a total chocolate fiend.  Also, we're getting some pizza to feed everyone, except Maevie who will get her fave, hot dogs.

I purchased one of those nifty photo-op banners that has a picture of an astronaut and a hole for kids to stick their faces through, so we should get some good pictures out of that.  And by a friend's suggestion, we're  going to play Pin the Astronaut on the Moon, only with tape, obviously!  Other than that, I haven't planned a lot of activities - there will only be 5 kids here, and 3 of them will be 2 and under, so I figure they'll mostly do their own thing.  Maybe we'll take a field trip to the playground that's a block away, if it's nice.

Last year we had so many people at her party, I think it really stressed her out.  Well, I know it did.  So this year, very small, just two families who have kids her age.  So if you didn't get an invite, please don't be bummed, just call or email and make a date to come see Maeve for a little one-on-one time around her birthday.  I promise we'll do a bigger bash next year, when her social skills have caught up.

My big almost-2 year old! Doesn't she look so much older with the ponytail?
