I Love Dancing!

"I think it is wonderful for everyone to take ballet classes, at any age. It gives you a discipline, it gives you a place to go. It gives you some control in your life. " -Suzanne Farrell

"I love dancing!" is now Maeve's most frequent announcement.  She has, in the last few days, become obsessed with all things ballet and dance related.  I don't mind, because I remember what it felt like to want to be a ballet dancer when I grew up (though I missed that one by a mile), and because dancing is something people work hard for all their lives, unlike princess-hood, a gift of birth.

Her main two dances moves involve running in place, which is what she calls dancing, or running around in a circle, which she calls a pirouette, thank you Sesame Street.  Oh, and she also jumps up and down, I think she considers that part of her routine, too.

The next ballet-for-tots class at our local rec center starts in July, so if she's still this excited and interested by then, I will sign her up, buy her the ballet slippers and tutu, and take her to class.  And I freely admit I would be pretty excited if that ends up being the case.  Toddlers in tutus are too adorable, and mine would probably bowl me over with cuteness in her dance gear.
This was her dance gear yesterday - fairy dress, swimming suit, leg warmers, and Crocs.

  1. I've been working on getting Captain Husband on board with signing Sammy up for some dance classes when he's a little bit older--I have the feeling he would love it, even though we may have to pass on the tutu part. :D

  3. I think it’s wonderful that your little girl is so enthusiastic about dancing! That quote at the beginning of the entry is perfect. Dancing of any kind, if it’s your passion, gives you discipline and gracefulness. It’s also a great form of exercise. I hope she keeps her energy and love for dancing and ballet as she grows! Here’s hoping she becomes a wonderful ballerina one day!

    1. Thank you, Kalevi, I have hope that she'll grow up enjoying dance in some form, but ballet would be especially nice :)
