In preparation for Maeve's upcoming ballet classes, we have been watching a lot of Angelina Ballerina. In case you haven't seen one and just want the synopsis, Angelina Ballerina is a mouse who attends ballet school, encourages her friends, dances incessantly, and is a bit of a whiner when things aren't going her way. The show is relentlessly positive, however, and slightly educational about ballet terms. I now know what chaînés are, as well as ront de jambe, and I also constantly have the Best Toe Forward song in my head.
As far as motivational songs go, it could be worse. It certainly beats Yo Gabba Gabba's Keep Trying. And it has a fairly positive effect on me, makes me think about starting fresh, not getting bogged down with how the day has gone so far, and making my best effort with Maeve. And I'll take encouragement whenever I can get it; there are certainly worse thoughts to have running through your head.
Maeve's ballet classes start next Wednesday, and I am so jittery about it. Will she have fun, or just be miserable knowing I've left her there? After all the work to find ballet shoes, talking about learning ballet from a teacher, prepping for how to say goodbye, will it all go down the toilet when she freaks out and refuses to participate when I leave?
But I've prepared her the best I can, I've enrolled her in a class about something she's interested in, with a small group of girls her own age, and now we both just have to put our best toes forward and see what happens.
|They are pretty cute toes, at that.|
