Big

"No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow. " - Alice Walker

My little girl is not so little.  7 months ago today, she came into this world, and already it's her oyster.

She is creeping, almost crawling, into places she shouldn't get into.  She already has the eye for trouble and the desire to get into it... or at least explore it until she gets caught or bumps her head.

She is in twelve month clothes and some eighteen month clothes, and her feet are so big that she wears 12-24 month size socks now.  This almost caused me to cry at Target.  Such big feet!  Where did my little baby go?

She has two teeth and is working on another, her hair has grown to just touch her ears, and it seems her legs are pure muscle.

She shrieks unhappily when things are taken away from her, she talks in her sleep, she changes her mind about things like food and pacifiers.

I am trying to be her friend in that I don't demand her silence or try to keep her from growing.  But she's like a dandelion in July: shooting up, strong as an ox, taking it all in with a sunny face.  I'll tell you what, we've had a rough month, but being a mom is still the best fun I've ever had, and Maeve is the chief joy of my days.

So get as big as you want, sweetie, we'll just keep buying you bigger socks.

Check these feeties!
