Dolly

"We say that a girl with her doll anticipates the mother. It is more true, perhaps, that most mothers are still but children with playthings. " -F. H. Bradley

Maeve got her first dolly this weekend.  I noticed that she was playing with my one female stuffed animal - Dot from Animaniacs - and thought to myself: This girl needs a doll.  I took Maeve with me to the toy section at Target, and showed her the one doll that was approved for children under one.

Maeve promptly grabbed her giddily, and shoved the tag into her mouth.  After removing the tag, I decided this dolly was all hers.  The checker, by the way, was grateful I'd removed the tag, he told me most people just hand him a soggy tag.

I can't tell you that Maeve and her dolly are inseparable, because Maeve isn't that attached to anything besides me.  But she does appear to enjoy carrying her dolly around by the foot, which is very cute.

And as the quote above suggests, I'm getting some entertainment out of the doll, too.  It's very true that I'm having a blast playing with Maeve and her toys, and reading to her.  How great a job is that?  Just the other day I was sitting on the floor with her, banging on upturned bowls and pots, thinking, does it get any better than this?  Let's play!

Feeling girly!

  1. Sammy has the same dolly; he loves to play with her "hair" and suck on her braids! :)

  2. :) super cute L! I was just thinking, if I'd had a son and she'd showed an interest, he'd have a doll by now, too!
