Resemblance

"We inherit nothing truly, but what our actions make us worthy of. " -George Chapman

Seeing more of Maeve's personality emerge is one of my joys in life at the moment.  I think most parents imagine their child will be either just like one part or the other; either that, or their own person completely.  But I'm coming to believe that Maeve has a little of each of us, and a lot of herself.

It's kind of astounding to think that my genetic material and my husband's came together to make Maeve, but somehow or other in that process, she was truly and utterly herself, her own person.  Call it mutation, call it creation, call it whatever you want, it's a mystery.

Sorry if the image isn't big enough, but you see my husband's baby picture on the left, Maeve and I in the middle, and me on my dad's shoulders on the right.

Maeve loves books and stuffed animals, just like me, and just like I did at her age.  She is fascinated by the computer and is quite the little scientist, just like Shaun.  But her fascination with ducks and trees seems to have come to her without our influence.  She's such a gem of her own making, and of ours, absolutely dazzling.

Just checking the printer ports, Mom.

Where are the pictures, lady?

  1. Those are great pictures and it is so true Sydney is a little of us both but she is defiantly a lot of just her.

  2. I see some resemblance in the photos! And they change - at times in her life, Maeve will look more like you, and at other times, more like your husband.

  3. It's amazing looking at our children and seeing ourselves and our spouse; some days Sammy looks so much like his dad that it almost takes my breath away. I can definitely see both you and Shaun in Maeve!
