Dino

"It's very simple why kids are crazy about dinosaurs -- dinosaurs are nature's Special Effects. They are the only real dragons. Kids love dragons. It's not just being weirdly shaped and being able to eat Buicks. It's that they are real." -Robert T Bakker

Bakker, although kind of annoying in many ways to those of us who regularly watch dinosaur programs, is totally right on this one.  Dinosaurs are nature's special effects, they are cool, and they, I suppose, could have eaten Buicks.

Maeve's first birthday party is  going to feature these real-life dragons, because I picked out the theme before she showed an interest in anything else.  If I had started planning this party a month later, it would have been all about Elmo or ducks, but that's beside the point.  The point is her dad and I have always been fascinated by dinosaurs, so therefore, that's what her first birthday is all about.  And it is awesomely cute.

My tricky mother-in-law found me some age-suitable dinosaur party items (ones that don't look like they were meant to market Jurassic Park) and they are super cute.  I put the favor boxes together last night and I just love them!

Further proof of my nerdiness: all the snacks I'm serving will be dinosaur-themed: Cretaceous cherry pie, Pterodactyl peach pie, Apatosaurus apple pie, 4-layer Fossil Record bean dip, "Dinosaur Dirt" - aka Chex Muddy Buddies, and Jello dinosaur jigglers.  I embrace my nerdhood with open arms.

I hope Maeve has a great time, which I'm sure she will, because there will be fun kids there.  And I hope the adults have fun, too.  Most of all I hope it's sunny enough for us to do this thing at the park; the forecast at the moment is rain and 40 degrees, which is not pleasant.  My backup location is McDonald's, which is way less fun for the adults.  But it'll be fun wherever we are, in part thanks to those Buick-eating dragons of old.
