Baby Packing

"A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it." -- John Steinbeck

We are taking Maeve to England again to visit my parents for a couple weeks.  We leave one week from today, and now the packing has begun.  Packing for a baby is like putting bets on cricket matches when you're from the US.  You have no idea what you're doing, or if it will do any good, or what, really, it's going to entail.  Only travel is nowhere near as boring as cricket.

We are packing a barrage of batteries and books, with only silent toys for the plane and a baby leash for the airport.  My parents, thank goodness, have a high chair, umbrella stroller, and a playpen, but we still have to haul our carseat with us.  Hooray for British Air, which checks our carseat for free and always seats us in a bulkhead row!

I dread getting Maeve's formula (or soymilk, depending on how our doctor's appointment next Tuesday goes) through security, it's just another thing to worry about.  She will probably sleep on the way there because it's a night flight, but she hasn't slept on my lap in a very long time, so I hope she manages.  Benadryl keeps her up, so I can't cheat that way.

There are so many things to worry about on a long international trip, but the rewards of having 2 weeks to play together, see my parents, and tour around England are totally worth it, and I'm not capable of seeing my parents once a year anymore.  And England in the spring! Strawberries, rhododendrons, sunshine, and green everywhere!

Now we just have to make sure we're not forgetting anything.  It's a good thing Dad is in charge of the passports!

And don't forget my blankie!!
