She Sings

"I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing than to teach ten thousand stars how not to dance. " -e. e. cummings

When I was Maeve's age, my voice sounded a lot like hers, kind of low and straight from the belly.  It took a few years of training, but that belly voice eventually became a halfway decent alto.  And now my little alto-in-training has started singing... I think.

I'll post a video so you can judge for yourself, but I think this is Maeve working on a sort of song.  She's been, well, I think focused is a kind word, focused on her O's lately, so a lot of what she says comes through her O shaped lips.  Her other phrase sounds like dabba dabba, so she's obviously working on her Yabba Dabba Doo, despite never having seen an episode of the Flintsones.

I have been anxiously awaiting her first little warbles, so it's exciting to hear something coming from her that sounds kind of like music on a more regular basis.  She also has a kind of high pitched, almost whiny noise that I think is what her humming sounds like at this point, but who can tell?  She is a professional noisemaker, but whether the noises are intended as music or not could be a point of contention.

But I know she has a song in her heart, and I will always be here to listen.

  1. It's better than half the crap on the radio! So yes, I'd say it definitely qualifies as singing.
