Tag Love

"Seeing, hearing, feeling, are miracles, and each part and tag of me is a miracle. "-Walt Whitman

Let us depart from the near-week of illness in our house (it seems to be almost gone, anyway) and ponder instead the love of a toddler for her blankie, and the tag thereupon.

Her green, soft, classic Pooh blankie has a little soft applique of Pooh and Piglet, but that has never caught her attention.  She likes its all-over softness and now-constant Maeve scent, but the tag seems to be the best part.

It says "Disney" on it, of course, and is cream colored, although it's hard to tell if the color is derived from her constant rubbing or if it came that way.  She sticks her finger through the loop of the tag, and can find it even when she's barely conscious or it's pitch dark in her room.  She scoots the blanket around in a circle till she finds that little loop of fabric happiness, and then relaxes.

I introduced the blanket to her last March, because as she was coming up on a year, good ol' Dr. Spock said she might be wanting what they call a 'transitional object' to help her with times when I was away or she was having a hard time.  And that blankie, and its little tag, have helped her through tooth pain, separation, doctor visits, shots, international travel, and a lot of car rides.

So I say hurray for the blanket, long may it thrive.  And I hope to goodness it never gets lost, because Target discontinued it. *sigh*

Blankie even came in handy on her birthday
