Right in the middle of her forehead...
Well, Maeve's hair was less like a precious little curl and more like a scruffy knot right in the middle of her forehead. Also, it was getting in her eyes. So last night after her bath, I held Maeve in a death grip and Daddy cut her bangs in one quick snip.
It looks great, and it was just what she needed. I was worried about her hair getting in her eyes and bugging her, so this cut was pretty painless. But I worry about the day that I will have to cut off her baby curls.
At least since she's a girl, there's no real pressure on me from anyone else to cut her hair. I know that if she were a boy there would be people in our lives asking us "When are you going to cut his hair" pretty regularly.
It's just that I love her curls. It took her SO long to grow the hair she has, and I just adore the way her hair flips up in the back like it's 1955. It's like a little golden halo around her neck, and I can't bear to part with it, can't even bear to think of those curls being swept up with a broom. No way.
So I'll hold out as long as I can, those baby curls will stay put as long as humanly possible. Do you think she might still have them in high school? A mom can hope.
