New Things

"A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new. " -Albert Einstein

We are making mistakes at our house, but we are trying out some new stuff.  Some of it is in preparation for the holiday season, and also for winter weather.  In many ways, it will be Maeve's first winter/first Christmas, even though she was around last year.  But she has no recollection of these happy occasions from last year, so we're starting over.

Because of spending so much time and eating so many meals with family over the next two months, we are training the small fry to eat from a booster seat at the table, off of a plate.  She normally sits in a high chair with a tray, so this is pretty new for her.  But I thought it would be easier to bring a booster seat to people's house rather than lug our high chair around.  Here's how it went yesterday.

First: joy at being set free from the tray.

Second: Do I have to use my hands?

Another change has been how I dress Maeve for going outside.  She insists on taking morning walks, though we may try putting them off till after naptime pretty soon because it's cold here in the morning these days!  But yesterday I just bundled her up, which included her wearing a hat.  Normally Maeve despises hats, but has started wearing them sometimes for dress up play, so I had hope.  And it was well-founded, she wore her spiffy new triceratops hat yesterday without a qualm.

So in just over a month, we'll try out the Christmas tree on the dining room table, and hope that change goes just as smoothly!
