Pete n' Repeat

"The events of childhood do not pass, but repeat themselves like seasons of the year. "-Eleanor Farjeon

Maeve has been sleeping more than usual; she is out for thirteen hours a night and sometimes follows it up with a three-hour nap, which is, all told, two more hours than usual.  Maybe it's daylight savings, maybe her sleep habits are changing, but what's more probable is: she's growing.

Since she is already in 2T and 3T clothes, I would like to hope that she is making mental leaps, not adding on the inches.  I already introduce myself to other mothers with the phrase "She's younger than she looks, she's only a year and a half" to their always appalled faces.

But there is evidence of some big mental strides, and the one that strikes me the most is her new-found love of repetition.  I mean, she's a toddler, she's always loved the concept of repetition, but lately she's gotten into it herself.

I noticed it on our drive home from an evening excursion to find an electric knife at a hardware store: Daddy and I were just talking in the front seat, and I noticed Maeve was repeating the last word we said, quietly, to herself.  Need. Bag. Home. Inside.  Some words she knows, others she doesn't, but her vocabulary is growing so fast these days it amazes me.

She is also picking up verbs, lots of verbs.  In the last week, we added spin, catch, and sing to her repertoire.  She likes to announce what she's going to do next in verb form, which can be very handy when she's squirming in your arms saying Run. Run. Run.  You know when you put her down, it's time to move

I told Daddy yesterday, I think toddlers are so much fun to be around to make up for the times when they distinctly are miserable to be around.  But the fun times sure are a blast.

Walk. Walk. Wun!

  1. I agree with you 100%--if they weren't so much fun to be with when they're having a good moment, I would have sold my toddler to the circus a long, long time ago! :D
