Her Plans

"If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans." -Woody Allen

My daughter is coming into an age of wanting to be the boss, of making her own plans.  I am often amused at her attempts to implement them, but I can see her plans taking shape as thoughtfulness and intent are painted all over her face.

Yesterday, among her many plans, were to wear the shoes she picked out.  I was impressed that both were sneakers, and not a boot and a dress shoe.  But after wearing them for about sixty seconds, she was over the mismatched shoe thing and onto some other plot.

Which reminds me that the best laid plans of mice and men gang aft agley, or 'oft go awry' as it's usually translated.  And even though as I read the local headlines this morning and proclaimed to my husband that Maeve will neither ski nor drive, ever ever, I know my plans are doomed, too.  I may relent and let her go cross-country skiing.

But we will see what her plans are today.
