Slow Down

“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once.” Albert Einstein

These are the moments when I wish I could slow down time:

My morning coffee, alone in silence for just a half an hour, before the day has begun.

Morning snuggles from Maeve, sleepy but anxious to start her day.  Even though she wants to get going on playing, I still get a cuddle for a minute or two, and I wish it was twenty.

Her look of anticipation and thrill when she crawls into her tent to find Daddy in there, who is waiting to tickle her.

Happy wiggles and "Mmm" noises when she eats my cooking.  I wish these went on for hours!

The quiet minute when I sing her lullabies before naps and bed, and she sits on my lap still and calm, without wiggles or wanting anything.

The split second when she realizes the sound at the door is Daddy coming home, and she busies herself getting ready for the important business about to be done.  She gets a very intent look on her face.

The broad grin that sweeps her face when she looks back at me to see if I think Mr. Noodle is as funny as she thinks he is.

The inquiring look that she gets when Daddy or I pretend to be asleep, just before she grabs or sits on our faces to teach us a lesson.

Total toddler glee that comes from running pell-mell in any direction.

The look of getting away with something that she gets when drinking orange juice (now dubbed Ernie Juice) from a big-girl cup.  Anybody would think she just robbed a bank.

Alas, time is not under my control, so I just enjoy those moments, and try to write them on my heart.

and I take a lot of pictures!
