Panama Hat -"So do you." - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
I can't help it, really, I was raised by museum nerds, and I helped turn my husband into one. Museums are the coolest places, and even if there isn't anything new or special on display, you can always find something else interesting. At least you definitely can at natural history museums.
Our local natural history museum has free days at random intervals during the year, and I always take advantage of those! Maeve and I went yesterday, accompanied by her good buddy Kai and his parents, whom she temporarily forgot and was very shy of, then remembered and chased all over.
I wasn't sure with her recent shyness how she'd do in a museum stuffed with people (free day is very popular here in Denver), but she did great. She only temporarily insisted on clinging to my neck, and was just as insistent at getting down to run once we got to the animal dioramas.
We have been taking Maeve to this museum since she was ten months old, actually for a year now. She loved it immediately the first time we went, and has loved it every time since then. And what's not to love? Giant stuffed polar bears and moose, dinosaur skeletons (her current fave), giant cutout astronauts, Egyptian mummies, and a great children's discovery and play area. We always have a great time, and are so grateful for the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District for our free days!

Museums are the best! I always wished I could spend the night in one a la The Mixed up Files! :D
ReplyDeleteI am always mentioning that book to people, and no one knows what I'm talking about! Maybe we're the only two kids that read it? And our museum DOES do sleepovers for kids sometimes, tho I think it's not cheap!
ReplyDeleteHooray! Someone else who knows the Mixed up Files! (I lost it when I went to the Met and finally saw the beds!)
ReplyDeleteRaised by 'museum nerds,' eh? Ouch!

Be proud, Dad, it's a great kind of nerd to be. :)
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the museum passes you can get from your awesome local library! We use them all the time. Just went to the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston.
