"Comedy is simply a funny way of being serious.

Maeve's sense of humor is fun to watch as it develops. She has always loved slapstick; she permanently bonded with her friend Kai's Daddy when he repeatedly walked into a volleyball net for her entertainment. But I think slapstick is one of the first kinds of humor that kids can grasp- it's kind of the lowest common denominator of humor, and I don't mean that in a bad way.
The thing that makes Maeve laugh most consistently these days (besides tickles) are funny noises and Cookie Monster. Her current fave is this gem from the past:
I think what she really loves about it is the predictability, and the om nom nom noises. But whatever the reason, she thinks Cookie Monster is outrageously funny. Or anyone doing a Cookie Monster impression.
She also thinks the sight of Mommy going down a slide at the park is a real side-splitter, but she's probably not the only one. I tell you what, though, those slide are not built for
nearly-six-foot-tall women, that's for sure. It's the spiral ones that
really get my legs tied up in knots, much to Maeve's hilarity. I'm pretty sure I look ridiculous, but that's my job, so I'm okay with that.
