Pure, Unadulterated Joy

"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. "-Buddha

Yesterday was a long day.  I made the mistake of letting Maeve fall asleep in the car on the way home from having lunch with Daddy downtown, and no nap occurred after those ten minutes of car slumber.

Instead of leaping like a gazelle into a state of total insanity, I made cake.
There were no complaints.
In fact, there was very little in the way of words or communication for a good fifteen minutes.
My sweet girl had never before gotten to lick the beaters for any reason - mostly because she is asleep when I'm baking, but also because most of the things I make with beaters contain foods she's allergic to.  But I used applesauce in the place of eggs in this mix, so it was totally safe for her.
Joy can spring up unexpectedly, and take the place of tooth-gnashing frustration, if you make room for it.

  1. !!!
What a good move, Mama. I'm taking notes.

  2. I think Maeve likes it :) Good for you, Mama, for making the most of a day without a nap!
