Like Chasing Butterflies

Somehow, being the parent of a toddler is like chasing butterflies all day.

Sometimes, for just a second, you see them clearly, without a blur or any leaves in the way, and you're stunned by how beautiful and delicate they are.  Or at least how perfect, in every way.

And forget keeping up with them, these are butterflies you are somehow meant to instruct, to show right from wrong, to keep from harming themselves, to show them how to make friends, put on gloves, and eat soup.  It's a complicated world out there for a butterfly, and much more so for the person whose job it is to watch them fly free, and teach them how to land.

And although this world can be so breathtakingly beautiful, sometimes your little butterfly looks awfully small.
