Alchemy of Fall

It was a very windy day when we took Maeve to the park on Saturday.  It was windy, but not too cold, so we said yes to a park trip, knowing the temperatures this season is going to start limiting those pretty soon.  And because we went to the park on a windy day, we witnessed a wonder.

The corner of the tennis court was attracting leaves like a giant magnet.  Every time we threw up a handful of leaves, they were sucked up against the fence, against all logic.  It worked, over and over, and we played and played.

Wind, and leaves, are apparently the long sought-after alchemist's formula, for turning leaden fall days into gold.

  1. This is a perfectly constructed piece of writing: "Wind, and leaves, are apparently the long sought-after alchemist's formula, for turning leaden fall days into gold." Love it.
