Texas

"If a man's from Texas, he'll tell you. If he's not, why embarrass him by asking? " - John Gunther

My darling husband was sent by his company to Texas for the week.  It's the longest we've been apart since Maeve was born.  Who's panicking?  I don't know what you're talking about.

Some of my mommy blog friends do this regularly, like L. over at L. To The Third, whose husband is in the military.  To you, L, and to all the other military wives, single moms, and other on-your-own-for-long-stretches moms out there, I both tip my hat and apologize for complaining,  But I must whine a little.

Things I am not looking forward to this week:
*dealing with all of Maeve's night wakes myself.  Even when I start getting exasperated and start hinting to Maeve that she is the sole cause of my insanity.
*All diapers, all the time, no breaks.
*No before-bed cuddles and chats.
*No Daddy gets home time to look forward to at night.
*Washing all the bottles, making my own coffee, and all the other things he does for me.

On the other hand, I'm excited for when he gets home again.  And so grateful that my parents are still here to help out.  I will try to be brave; updates to follow.

Hurry home, Daddy!

  1. Dang right you are glad your parents are there!!! That much time alone with baby is scary for me!

  2. It can be quite scary to be on your own with a baby. Heck, even after 5 months on my own with Sammy I still have my panic moments (not too mention the "Oh dear lord, I must get out of this house or I'll go crazy" moments). I know you'll do great!

  3. Whine away, honey. That's what we're here for! You will do fine. And when it's over, you will feel a sense of accomplishment!
