Great Pumpkin

"He'll come here because I have the most sincere pumpkin patch and he respects sincerity." - Linus, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

We very sincerely visited a pumpkin patch yesterday.

See her sincerity?

It was a special pumpkin patch because the proceeds benefit one of my favorite charities, Habitat for Humanity.  And special because it was Maeve's first pumpkin patch; last year we spent a good chunk of October in England, and Maeve was only 5 months old, so we didn't work too hard on pumpkins.  But she got her money's worth yesterday, that 's for sure.

Mom, I want these two.

The biggest hit was the straw, in typical toddler messy-details-distraction fashion.  She even tried to drum on the pumpkins with pieces of straw, and even though it didn't work, I was impressed with her creativity.

It was hard to keep her out of the baby pumpkins, but she either wanted to climb on top of them or pick them up and carelessly chuck them to the ground.  So I kept prying them out of her hands or yanking her off the pile.

I. said. no!
I was jealous of the awesome Habitat for Humanity volunteers who got to spend all day outside, just hanging out with pumpkins and families, but also because they had such a sincere pumpkin patch that the Great Pumpkin is sure to rise up and bring toys for all of them.  Happy pumpkining to all!

  1. Clearly, Maeve will grow up to be a tall, stunningly beautiful astrophysicist who plays drums in a band on the weekends. Not too shabby :)
