"Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind
braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad
weather, only different kinds of good weather.
"
-John Ruskin
We got our first real snow of the season yesterday, and luckily, I was prepared. I had already gotten Maeve some snowpants, a warm coat, mittens, a couple of warm hats, and her grandma bought her some boots. So when she decided not to take a nap yesterday morning, I sprang into action.
I bundled her up as quickly as possible, since I knew she would get hot, and we dashed outside to greet the new snow. There was a large area of undisturbed snow in our apartment's volleyball court, so I set her down and let her loose.
Mostly she seemed puzzled that she couldn't pick up very much snow, as it either stuck to her mittens or fell out of her hands. She diligently dusted snow off the wall of the court, as if she was cleaning up some other kid's mess.
Even though it's hard to tell, she was really enjoying herself. Maeve doesn't smile a lot when she's experiencing something new, because she's too busy trying to figure it all out. She doesn't grin when she's in scientist mode. But she kept pointing and saying "Snow!" to me, so I knew she loved it.
We were outside for all of a half an hour or so, probably less, but between the cold and the new experiences, I totally wore her out and she napped for three hours! So it was a good day.
Oh, how totally adorable! I love Maeve's expression. Snow is serious business! We're supposed to get some white stuff in NH as well!
ReplyDeletesoooooo cute! I love seeing all the first snow pictures (especially since from my tropical location!). Winter is such a magical time for the kiddies.
