As Maeve's twenty-first month comes rolling along next week, a mother's mind naturally turns to party planning. After all, she will be a two year old in just three months from next Monday. We will no longer refer to her age in months, she will just be two, and strangers will nod their heads in sympathy and understanding.
Maeve's most recent obsession has to do with the celestial bodies: namely, the sun, the moon, stars, and the sky. So I am thinking perhaps instead of the bland, Elmo-themed party I had been considering, perhaps she should have a space-themed party!
Poor kid, yet again stuck with an 8-year-old boy's party theme, like last year's dinosaurs, but this party is truly based on her interests, which are much more discernible now than they were a year ago. We watch the Sky episode of Elmo's World about three times a day, and that is because that's all Momma will allow.
But I am thinking of yellow Jello jigglers in a star shape, maybe a round cake decorated to look like the sun with a separate moon cake for Maeve, lots of stars and planets hanging from our balcony roof, and lots of cute space favors from a party store. Maybe we will even really spoil the kids and get some astronaut ice cream, although Maeve probably can't have it.
But we will have a house big enough to have a party, although we will have far fewer people than last year! So if you are friends of ours and don't get an invite to Maeve's party, please don't be offended, because she just can't take big crowds. We'd be happy to have you over whenever is convenient for you in the weeks around her big day.
Just think about it: Space, the final frontier. A perfect party idea!

We made 3-D comets using foam balls and pipe cleaners. Rolled them in glue then glitter! Super easy and they look totally cool! Maeve could even help with that craft!
ReplyDeleteAND the space theme is totally cool! I think :)
ReplyDeleteI think the space theme is a GREAT idea! There's tons of creative possibilities and it's something that she'll really enjoy!
