Brown Puppy, Princess Kitty

"Mawwiage. Mawwiage is what bwings us togethew today. Mawwiage, that bwessed awwangement, that dweam within a dweam. And wove, twue wove, wiww fowwow you fowevah and evah… So tweasuwe youw wove" - The Princess Bride

We went to our favorite thrift store, the ARC yesterday, and Maeve picked out a new stuffed toy: a dog who she has named Brown Puppy. We're in that very imaginative phase of naming around here. Anyway, before we picked out Brown Puppy, I showed her a display the employees had put together of various wedding items and explained a little more about weddings. I pointed out the bride and groom and the flowers and hearts all over, and then she noticed what was meant to be the ring bearer and flower girl. She got excited and said, Look, Mom, it's a little Gentleman and a Gentle...Lady! Well, you can't argue with that.

Not a half an hour later, we piled back into the car with Brown Puppy in tow. He met her stuffy Kitty Princess who had ridden with us in the car but which I told her she couldn't bring into the store, and apparently fell instantly in love, because Brown Puppy and Kitty Princess kissed all the way home. I asked Maeve, were her stuffies in love? And she explained that they were, in fact, married.

This is the thing about parenting: sometimes you instantly see the results of how you explain something.

Together, at last.
